Protein for Healthy Weight

Proteins are long chains of amino acids linked together. When we eat protein, our digestive system breads it down into single amino acids and rearranges them to build new structures or tissues. There are at least 22 amino acids required by the body and since our bodies can only produce some, at least 8 must come from food. One of the main roles of protein in the diet is for muscle growth and repair. Lean muscle tissue increases metabolism and helps to burn fat, therefore protein is a very important part of a weight loss or fitness program.

Today many of our protein sources are contaminated with chemicals, hormones and antibiotics. Be sure to choose fresh, organic, lean protein foods such as chicken, fish, eggs, soy products and minimal dairy to avoid these hazards. A high quality protein shake daily is one way to be sure you are getting some good protein everyday.
